Frequently asked questions

Why are BMP files so big?

BMP usually stores every pixel uncompressed. JPG compresses the image, so the same picture takes a fraction of the space.

Will I lose quality?

JPG is lossy, but at 90% quality the difference is very hard to see. Line drawings and tiny text may look slightly softer.

Can I convert BMP to PNG instead?

Not with this tool yet. If you need lossless output, let us know through the Contact page.

What happens to my files?

Uploaded files are deleted from our server within seconds of conversion, and converted files are removed automatically within about 15 minutes. We don't keep copies.
