Frequently asked questions

Does PNG to WEBP keep transparency?

Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent areas of the PNG are kept in the WEBP.

Is the conversion lossless?

No. Images are encoded as lossy WEBP at quality 90, which is why the files get so much smaller. For photos and most graphics the difference isn't visible; for pixel art, or images you'll keep editing, stick with PNG.

Why convert PNG to WEBP?

PNG files are often large, especially screenshots and photos. WEBP keeps the transparency of PNG while making files much smaller, so pages load faster.

What happens to my files?

Uploaded files are deleted from our server within seconds of conversion, and converted files are removed automatically within about 15 minutes. We don't keep copies.
